Borno, Zamfara and Sokoto lead August fatalities as Lakurawa, bandit and ISWAP violence intensifies

• •Renewed Lakurawa and bandit assaults on Kebbe, Sabon Birni, Rabah and Wurno LGAs of Sokoto, where attacks in August displaced residents from approximately 20 villages.
• •Further abduction from the Kainji Lake National Park corridor in Borgu LGA, Niger, where captives taken from Dekara on 22 August were held after the 8 August rescue of 308 persons from the same park.
• •Repeat night raids in Mangu, Riyom and Barkin Ladi LGAs, Plateau, following the Jwak Maitumbi, Bin-Per and Amper attacks and the Wereng killing of Fulani herders.
• •ISWAP regrouping in Borno following the loss of three senior commanders in the Mandaragirau axis, and continued targeting of schools after the Lassa abduction in Askira/Uba LGA, where 36 students remained unaccounted for.
• •Continued attacks on police and military positions in Sakaba LGA, Kebbi and Kaura Namoda LGA, Zamfara, both of which saw formations of 200 or more bandits engage fixed security posts in August.

• •The Kwara State government's confirmed release of 176 Woro and Nuku captives and the 308-victim recovery in the Kwara-Niger border area demonstrate a functioning inter-agency rescue capability involving the military, DSS and ONSA.
• •Five JAS fighters surrendered with ammunition in Bama LGA, Borno, between 21 and 22 August, indicating an operating channel for defections under Operation Hadin Kai.
• •Joint action by the DSS, Nigerian Army, Katsina Community Watch Corps and CJTF foiled a planned mass kidnapping at Gidan Bawa, Bakori LGA, Katsina, offering a community-security model, though reporting also records that peace agreements between communities and bandit groups across several Katsina LGAs have not halted attacks.

Borno. Operation Hadin Kai air and ground engagements at Kukawa, Monguno, Biu and the Mandaragirau axis produced heavy attrition, alongside the ISWAP school abduction at Lassa.

Sokoto. Lakurawa and bandit assaults on Kebbe, Sabon Birni, Rabah and Wurno LGAs killed over 100 civilians and displaced residents from some 20 villages.

Plateau. Mangu LGA absorbed three separate mass-casualty night raids at Jwak Maitumbi, Bin-Per and Amper, lifting the incident count sharply.

Zamfara. Air strikes in Anka LGA under Operation Clean Sweep IV, a police-bandit gun duel and the overrunning of a military outpost at Kasuwar-Daji drove fatalities to 260.

Kebbi. The 10 August assault by over 200 bandits on the Makuku police camp in Sakaba LGA accounted for most of the increase, killing 10 officers, one vigilante and two civilians.

Osun. The August governorship election generated 17 verified violence incidents across 10 LGAs, compounded by Aiye-Eiye confraternity clashes in Ilesa; the state recorded 27 fatalities.

Anambra. Joint Task Force South East raids on IPOB/ESN camps at Osuakwa and a police operation at Amiyi, Ogbaru LGA, plus cult shootings in Awka South, lifted both counts.

Adamawa. Boko Haram/ISWAP activity in Hong LGA, an attack on Gaya community and a subsequent camp destruction, accounted for most fatalities.

Ogun. Incident volume rose sharply on largely non-lethal crime and fraud enforcement activity, including a fraud arrest recorded in Abeokuta South.

Lagos. Cult clashes and mob violence in Alimosho, Eti-Osa and Lagos Mainland produced 20 fatalities across 63 incidents.

Edo. Protest violence at Rongtai Building Materials in Ikpoba-Okha LGA, where a facility section was razed after a worker's death, drove the increase.

Kano. Recorded incidents rose alongside fatal cases including the deaths of four Almajiri students in Ungogo LGA.

Enugu. Incident count rose on urban crime and road fatalities, including a hit-and-run killing two men at Emene, Enugu East LGA.

Jigawa. Rioting in Taura LGA after a soldier stabbed a civilian, a fatal attack on vigilantes and a stabbing in Ringim LGA lifted both metrics.

Gombe. A modest rise in recorded violent crime, including a fatal assault at Gona under SCID Gombe investigation.

FCT. Farmer-herder clashes across three communities in Gwagwalada Area Council added incidents without additional fatalities.

Cross River. Incident volume rose largely on enforcement activity, including the NSCDC rescue of 42 trafficking victims in Calabar Municipal.

Ekiti. Incidents rose with no recorded fatalities; the month's notable case was a reported abduction from a guest house room.

Ondo. An ambush on Amotekun Corps officers in Akure North LGA accounted for the state's principal loss.

Delta. Incident volume edged up on mob justice cases, including two suspected robbers killed and burnt at Giwa-Amu junction, Warri.

Bauchi. Incidents rose slightly while fatalities fell by one; a youth clash in Gamawa LGA was the main flashpoint.

Akwa Ibom. Incident count rose while fatalities fell; maritime crime dominated, including a Navy rescue of 22 sea-robbery victims.

Oyo. More incidents but fewer deaths, with an abduction from a cattle ranch at Asanmimi village, Atiba LGA, the notable case.

Katsina. Incidents rose modestly while fatalities declined, as security operations in Bakori LGA shifted the casualty balance toward armed groups.

Niger. Incidents rose on mass abductions in Borgu and Rafi LGAs, while fatalities fell as large-scale rescues succeeded.

Kwara. Incident count rose slightly while fatalities dropped sharply, alongside the release of 176 Woro and Nuku captives and the ONSA-led rescue operation.

Kaduna. Incidents increased but fatalities fell steeply; the mass abduction of 75 travellers near Birnin Gwari ended with all victims rescued unharmed.

Benue. Both incidents and fatalities fell substantially, though suspected armed herdsmen still killed at least 14 across Mbaterem communities in Ukum LGA.

Rivers. Marginally fewer incidents and a notable drop in fatalities, though targeted killings persisted in Bori, Khana LGA.

Kogi. Incident count was flat and fatalities fell, though a clash between a state vigilante group and a Fulani vigilante group in Yagba East LGA killed at least nine.
