Troops rescue three kidnap victims in Otukpo

A Catholic seminarian was allegedly abducted from the residence of the Catholic Bishop of Otukpo on a Wednesday and resurfaced two days later in Aliade, Gwer East LGA. The Benue State Police Command is investigating the claim, noting the circumstances may constitute a missing person case rather than a confirmed abduction, though the seminarian reported to police that unknown gunmen had taken him.

Armed herders attacked Ugboju communities in Otukpo LGA, Benue State, killing at least 15 people across two communities, 14 at Efeyi-Ugboju in an attack lasting from 5am to past 9am on Tuesday, and one at Ipom-Ugboju on Monday morning. Several others sustained injuries and were taken to hospital, while residents of neighbouring communities fled for safety.

Armed attackers raided Olahimu village in Otukpo LGA, Benue State at around 7am on Monday, shooting dead a 15-year-old boy, leaving one labourer missing, and rustling approximately 500 cattle from a family herd. The attack triggered mass displacement of residents from Ugboju communities, and security personnel were mobilised but arrived after the attackers had fled.

Troops from Operation Whirl Stroke conducted a clearance operation in the Otukpo-Nobi, Amichio and Amula Forest axis of Benue State on July 17, arresting five suspected militia members and recovering a locally fabricated Dane gun and five rounds of 7.62mm ammunition. Militia camps were demolished to prevent their reuse as operational bases.
