Four arrested over mob stabbing death in Minna

Niger State Police arrested six suspected kidnappers at Kpakungu in Minna who confessed to abducting residents in Bwari and Kubwa areas of the FCT as well as parts of Niger State. The suspects were apprehended by police operatives and investigations are ongoing.

An unidentified man was found hanging inside an uncompleted building in the Albishiri Area of Chanchaga LGA, Niger State. Police, who received the report around 7am on Thursday, suspect the incident is a suicide case and have contacted the Chanchaga Social Welfare Department while investigation continues.

Two suspected phone snatchers used a tricycle to steal three phones from passengers in a one-chance style robbery at Mobil roundabout in Minna. Police operatives rescued the suspects from a mob that had gathered after the victims raised an alarm, and the suspects are now in custody pending charges.

A man posing as a pastor abducted a four-week-old baby from its nursing mother in Minna on July 13, luring them to an uncompleted building near Mobil Roundabout before fleeing with the infant through a rear exit on a motorcycle. Police arrested both the fake pastor and his female accomplice who had contracted him to procure a newborn; the baby was rescued and reunited with its mother.

Niger State Police arrested 27 suspects during coordinated raids on criminal hideouts in Minna on July 4–6, including 10 men who confessed to travelling from Yobe State for illegal mining and 17 others found with weapons and cannabis. A notorious wanted thug was among those apprehended; all suspects were transferred to the SCID for further investigation.

Students of the Federal University of Technology, Minna blocked the institution's main gate and the Minna-Bida road on Tuesday morning to protest recurring off-campus robbery attacks, locking out the Vice Chancellor and senior management for several hours and disrupting academic activities. The protest was triggered by the killing of one student in a robbery three days earlier and injuries to others in an attack the previous night.
28 June 2026 · Communal violence
A violent clash between rival youth groups in Dutsen-Kura Gwari and Fadikpe communities in Minna escalated late Sunday night, prompting a police response. During the intervention, an exchange of gunfire resulted in one youth fatally shot, two others sustaining gunshot injuries, and a fourth suffering machete cuts; two locally fabricated firearms were recovered from the scene.
15 June 2026 · Law enforcement operation
Niger State police arrested six suspected hoodlums in separate operations in Minna between June 15 and June 29, 2026, recovering suspected cannabis and vandalized cables. Four of the suspects were arraigned and sentenced to eight months imprisonment without option of fine, while two others arrested with cannabis and vandalized cables remain in custody.
