A large convoy of bandits on roughly 240 motorcycles, split into three groups, was reported moving from Sangeko Gap in Zamfara State through Mariga LGA in Niger State.

Armed bandits were reported emerging from Dogon Dawa in Zamfara State at approximately 4am and moving toward areas close to the Kontagora-Tegina highway in Niger State, prompting a yellow alert travel advisory with a warning that the alert may be upgraded to red if bandits reach the highway.

Bandits invaded a Niger State community despite having previously collected N11 million in levies, killing one elderly man, shooting several residents including a minor, abducting four people, and looting shops before retreating.

A large bandit group originating from Sangeko Gap in Zamfara State has been tracked moving through Kakihum in Niger State and is expected to reach the Kontagora-Rijau highway within approximately one hour. A travel advisory has been issued urging motorists and farmers in the area to avoid the highway and remain at home.

Nigerian Army troops conducted an ambush operation against suspected terrorists in Kontagora LGA, Niger State, killing an unspecified number of assailants and recovering six motorcycles.

An NSCDC Mining Marshal officer was shot dead by suspected illegal miners in Korokpa Village, Niger State, on July 22, 2026, during an enforcement operation against illegal mining activities. The officer was shot in the head, rushed to hospital, and later died from his injuries.
